Different religions mostly in christianity like to preach their followers that it is better for every one to know what God has called you to do,sometimes some people have a calling that is the same as his or her career;others have different. This is why Pastors love to encourage individuals to prevent themselves from doing what they are not called and make God look for someone else to do what you were supposed to do. Biblical scholars say that you can know your Calling from :
Your surroundings such as family,friends,co-workers, fellow Christians, because of this reason when you live with someone you both get to know each other like characters,strenghts and weaknesses of each,what interests you to participate in.Example:you can be someone who is more caring and you find yourself paying attention to every detail of someone else like saying this person is dressing well and it fits him or her.
What you always are passionate about, what you find yourself loving to do it without caring on how people would take you,you do it with more commitment and courage without even expecting profits from it becaue you feel like you are doing it for yourself. Example:doing the cleaning services at Church,protocols,doing charity actions like visiting patients and pray for them,building shelters for those who are helpless,you can find that you have leadership calling because you love to see things well organized anytime you see things not going well or not being done as it should be, you decide to do something to help.
You can dream it or have vision about it when sleeping, God may choose to let you know when you are sleepy during night or shows you ,it just appears to your eyes while not sleeping and explain it to you in a good way that will not you leave in confusion, like Joseph,Samuel,Abraham,Zacharia.
You can know it through prophecy,God can choose to let you know by using another person ,like for example God revealed to Moses who will replace him and that was Joshuah. In Old Testament,God revealed people about their calling through prophecy and He still does it in New Testament.
What does the Bible say about it?
Ephesians 4:11 shows calling or gift that Christ gave Christians they share in common which include Apostles,Evangelists,Prophets,Pastors and Teachers.
